Generals lead the All-Star charge

When the Valley League All-Stars meet at Casey Field in Covington, VA tonight no team will have more players in uniform than the defending Jim Limeweaver champion Waynesboro Generals.

There are seven players representing Waynesboro on the South All-Star team, more than any of the other ten teams in the Valley League circuit.

Each team is granted two automatic-bids which allows each team to be showcased at the mid-summer classic.

The Generals used their automatic-bids on third basemen Evan Webb (Tennessee Tech) and starting pitcher Adam Liberatore (Tennessee Tech).

The pair of Golden Eagles have been lights out for the first place Generals (19-9) who currently are tied with Luray for the best record in the league.

Webb is batting .308 with 4 hr, and 22 rbi -- he is the only General to start all 28 games for the team this season.

Liberatore who is on track to win the "Cy Young"  has been the anchor of the Generals six man rotation. In five starts he is 4-0 with a mind numbing 0.73 era. In 37 innings of work Liberatore has fanned 39 batters while only allowing 3 earned runs on the season.

Both Webb and Liberatore will get the starting nods in this evenings exhibition game.

Joining Webb and Liberatore will be five others who were voted in by coaches and owners from around the league.

Pitchers Andy Altemus (Potomac State),  and Jared Dobbs (Tennessee Tech), second basemen Brandon Sizemore (College of Charleston), and outfielders Jacke Healey (Potomac State), and Mark Dvoroznak (West Virginia) will join the team who will be managed by Generals manager Lawerence Nesselrodt.

Altemus and Dobbs are Valley League rookies who came into the season as relatively unknown question marks who since have combined for an 8-2 record, and 56 strikeouts in 66.1 innings pitched.

Sizemore who is a third year General is making his first all-star appearance. Along side Healey, Dvoroznak, and Webb the foursome have been the leaders of the Generals offense. Combining for 13 hr, 103 hits, and 63 rbis. Nearly fifty-percent of the Generals runs can be credited to the four.

The All-Star fan-fest and home run derby will start at 4 p.m. the game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

Waynesboro's next game is at home at Kate Collins Field on Tuesday against conference rival Covington.
