And so it begins...

I try to do my best and not put two blurbs concerning the same topic back to back but this time I cannot contain myself from reffering to the Yankees managerial situation.

As many of us know by now Joe Torre will not be returning to the team he lead so valiantly for 12 years but the more I begin to think about it, I am slowly becoming OK with the situation. I still believe that Torre is the best manager of the last 65 years, and I do believe that any team in baseball looking for a manager would be dumb as a bag of bricks if they do not at least contact Torre for the spot on their team.

If Joe Girardi or Don Mattingly (I find it hard to believe that any other candidate will get the job) become the next manager it will be the beginning of a new era, a change that we as the Yankee faithful may just be more ready for than we are willing to admit.

As the Yankees bats become more potent (atleast in the regular season) their pitching becomes less dominant, and no amount of home runs and base hits can make up for shasty pitching. There is a dire need for pitching-and it is about to come in the form of Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, Jeff Karstens, and the other young talent the Yankees have brought up through their minor league system.

Their is a need for speed, the Red Sox and Angels, and even the Devil Rays have more speed than they know what to with. With the exception of Abreu and Cabrera the Yankees are way behind on the 'fast track.'

In short it is my belief that a new face sitting on the bench will usher in a new era of Yankees baseball. It happened when Joe came in and it'll happen again.
