Two weeks later, still going strong.

Where does the time go? It's been exactly two weeks since I've last updated you on the status of 'the stache,' and I can only imagine how worried you've all been.

First just let me re-assure you that the I am still going strong and have very much so gotten over my early worries that I was committing social suicide. I am. No big deal.

The last two weeks I survived halloween, social gatherings, and multiple classes were I've been called out for having, 'something on top my lip.'

Nonetheless let me re-assure you loyal Stache followers that all will continue to go strong until at the very earliest Thanksgiving, when it is very possible my mom forces me to shave for our relatives.

It's time to part, I promise it won't be two weeks until my next post. Good night and God bless America.

Best-

Day 15: Good weekend for the stache

Disclaimer: I cannot tell a lie, in a moment of weakness I almost shaved -- I almost threw it all away. After Ben my negotiator roommate told me this is what makes a man a hero, I decided that everything was going to be OK!

I'm proud to report that it was a very successful weekend with the stache -- well I've kind of wussed out and tuned my facial make up into a stylish goatee -- but I digress.

At a basement party on Thursday I was informed from a slightly intoxicated blonde that she had been checking me out all evening because AND I QUOTE "my edgey biker facial hair." What ever the hell that means I'm putting it the compliment column. (compliments 1 - Insults 323)

The lovely blonde asked if I'd dance with her -- I obliged -- but when she tried to make a move I had to break it to her that the stache rides solo.

On Friday it was off to a
Wild Wild West party I went-- needless to say the surplus of drunken cowgirls and scantly clothed Native Americans confused me with Mustache extraordinaire and award winning actor Sam Elliot (see below) Can you blame them? Than there is Saturday -- the day my mustache launched an epic brawl.

After an eight hour work day all I really wanted to do was relax with myself, my stache, a couple of cold beers and watch the World Series. But being that my mustache has become somewhat of a pop-star around campus I was persuaded by the tens of hundreds of phone calls to come out and enjoy the night life.

After I combed my lip-fur I was ready to paint the town red. I arrived at my friend Lauren's party drunk with love and beer when I noticed something terrible. The party I was at had 35 sausages and 10 girls. What the hell? The worst part is no one else at the house had even a snib-bit of facial hair (pansies)

I plopped a seat in front of the television with my friend Bill (no stache Bill as he has come to be known around this town) when one by one the other gents at the party started talking, whispering, and staring at me (pansies) I thought "oh shit, they're going to pounce me," but noooo the opposite -- they began to compliment my stache -- and actually scuffle for the open seat next to mine.

First came a trashy C
aucasian male by the name of TJ who asked if it was natural or if Rogaine enhance -- it's natural I reply -- and if you didn't have your sunglasses on at 11:30 at night and a Trojan Headband around your neck you might be able to notice.

Than there was 'Drunk Ass Ricky,' an annoying Phillies fan who kept insisting to me the reason that Ryan Howard and Chase Utley are better baseball players than I is because they have the common decency not to grow facial hair -- fuck Drunk Ass Ricky.

Before conflict arised Ricky apologized and said he actually 'digged the stache' and will begin to grow his own -- nonetheless I stand by my point that Ricky sucked.

After an array of non-important bystanders came and went I decided that it was time to leave the non-facial hair festivities and head back home. What would happen afterward is all entirely true according to the record of Non-Stache Bill.

After I left the boys at the party began discussing who could grow a mustache that would rival mine -- some called it sacrilegious to have such a conversations -- others proclaimed with sheer confidence they could outgrow me in two days flat.

The lines were drawn the battlegrounds set. Knives were drawn, groins were kicked, and punches were thrown, Drunk Ass Ricky took a shot to the eye, blood splattered like a sprinkler, and as Ricky fell it is rumored he mumbled ,"Viva La Stache."

Men fell like acorns from an Oak tree in the fall.

Things escalated s
o quickly that an anonymous tool repping a went so far to put together a concoction that resembled a Moltov Cocktail...but didn't have the balls to use it..thank God.

After the dust settled, and the local S.W.A.T team cleaned up the mess twenty-six individuals had been arrested on several charges; including, attempted murder, Mustache Jealousy in the first and second degree, and drunk in public charges.

I never meant for my mustache to cause so many problems -- but I can't let a few bad stacheless apples ruin it for the rest of us -- the cause lives on, and soon enough we will all bask in its glory.

Until next time HAPPY JOSHGIVING!

The Mustahce Day 11

I'm looking for a large shipment of patience, if anyone knows where I can get some cheap let me know.

I'm heading into the midst of week 2 (day 11) and all I currently have to show for my efforts is dark colored fuzz. Maybe its' the ground work for a Stalin Stache but more likely I fear it will amount to nothing more than that of Jose my neighbor.

Nonetheless the progression is going relatively slow -- but don't you fear, for I have not lost faith in the cause!

Mustache; The Essence of Man.

I yearn for a mustache. I want to grow a mustache unlike any other -- one that will make people stop and say, " that sir, is a damn fine 'stache." Unfortunately I am one of the ill-fated many who will never realize this dream.

You see, even at age twenty-one I grow facial hair equivalent to that of a pr
epubescent twelve year old. My friend Josh has had the uncanny capability to grow a full blown stache in sixth grade, my buddy Branson can whip out designer-esque lip fur on a moments notice, but I -- I take weeks for a shadow to appear.

My head is out of the clouds -- I know an award winning mustache will never come from my face -- and that's OK. But damn it i want some acknowledgment.

That is why right now, in writing I am putting my foot down -- I will not shave my upper lip until AT THE VERY LEAST a mustache of respectability appears.

Although this is the first post I am currently ending day 10 of my campaign to make this world a better place -- one mustache at a time.

Pictures will be posted soon. Pray for me, pray for the cause, but a
bove all else pray for the stahce.

Power Rankings Week 1: America's team back on top

Can ya believe that week one is already in the books? It may not have all been under one roof, but the circus definitely came to town.

Broadway Brett shined in his Jets debut, Aaron Rodgers battered the mighty Vikings defense, upset central USA in Indianapolis and San Diego -- not forget rookie sensations Joe Flacco, Eddie Royal, Matt Forte, and Felix Jones all made a name for themselves -- oh yeah, Tom Brady will be holding a clipboard instead of tearing apart defensive schemes for the rest of the season.

Call me crazy, but, I do believe these rankings will change around quite a bit in the next sixteen weeks. For now -- Jerry Jones and Cowboy Nation can relax -- you're team is on top ( that is until Jessica Simpson comes to your game on Monday Night, ugh oh!)

Here they are the power rankings for week 1!

1) Cowboys - America's team is back on top, thanks in part to rookie tailback Felix Jones who gives Dallas a lethal 1-2 punch in the backfield. Previous: 4

2) Steelers - While the other AFC powerhouses stumbled Pittsburgh dominated Houston in dynamic fashion. Willie Parker doesn't seem to have lost a step after breaking his leg last season. Previous: 7

3) Giants - The Super Bowl champs picked up where the left off. Eli Manning looked confident, Plaxico and Brandon Jacobs were dominating, while the defense was able to hold their own. Jeremy who? Previous: 10

4) Patriots - Brady might be on the sideline; but, New England has always found a way to win under Belichick. Don't count the Pats out quite yet. Previous:1

5) Saints - Drew Brees threw for 343 yards and three scores, while Reggie Bush put up 163 total yards. Watch out NFC South this might be a long year if New Orleans can stay hot. Previous: 6

6) Eagles - Donovan McNabb didn't have his top two targets and still put up monstrous numbers (361 yards, 3 td.) Philly could upset a lot of teams this year, especially if Westbrook and McNabb stay healthy all season...a big if. Previous 15

7) Chargers - San Diego should've blown the Panthers out of the water, instead they let Carolina stay in it till the end. The Bolts aren't strangers to slow starts, a rough first week won't stop LT and the boys from making another playoff run. Previous: 2

8) Packers - Aaron Rodgers sure seemed to silence the critics with his first NFL start ( 213 total yards 2 TD) If the new kid on the block can keep it up Green Bay shouldn't have trouble making a run at grabbing their second consecutive NFC North Crown. Previous: 9

9) Colts - Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison were coming off tumutulous off-seasons and it showed. Joseph Addai was held to 44 yards on the ground, but don't count out the Colts just yet -- although this is the first time in 56 football weeks they aren't in or tied for first in the AFC South. Previous 3

10) Panthers - Jake Delhomme looked great in his first game since Tommy John Surgery, and the heavy hitting Panthers were able to stick it to a Super Bowl favorite Chargers squad. Previous: 19

11) Bears - In a re-match of Super Bowl XLI, Da Bears D smacked around a sloppy Colts offense. Chicago held Joseph Addai to 44 yards, scored off a recovered fumble, and sacked Peyton Manning for a safety en route a dominating 29-13 victory.  Previous: 26

12) Jaguars - It didn't take thirteen weeks for David Garrard to throw his first interception, as he gave up two picks in the season opener. Tennessee's looked to be too much at times, but don't cancel the Jacksonville Jaguars just yet plenty of season left. Previous: 5

13) Ravens - Joe Flacco shined in his first NFL game, and the Baltimore D held Carson Palmer to only 99 yards in the air. Only time will tell if Flacco truly is the man for the job. Previous: 20

14) Browns - The secondary was suspect coming into this season, and now they have proven they have a lot to do. Romo threw for 320 yards while Derek Anderson only countered with 114 yards through the air. It may be early in the season but it's safe to say the Browns still have a lot of work to do. Previous: 11

15) Jets - Brett "The Jet" Favre shined in his white and green debut -- throwing for nearly 200 yards and 2 scores -- in the end though it was the Jets D that got them through this one. With Brady out, can the Jets capture the AFC East Crown? The two teams meet for the first time without Tom Brady since 2000. Previous: 25

16) Bills - Buffalo sacked Matt Hasselback five times, scored on a Roscoe Parrish punt return, and Trent Edwards threw for a score and 215 yards complimented by a solid ground attack that put up 100 yards the Bills looked posed to make a charge at the AFC East title. Previous 23

17) Vikings - The stout defense we've come accustomed to from Minnesota wasn't there; no sacks, Jared Allen didn't register a tackle, although Green Bay was able to run for  only 124 yards. Doesn't get any easier as the Colts come to town on Sundday. Previous: 12

18) Broncos - Jay Cutler has showed signs this is his breakout year, rookie wideout Eddie Royal earned his stripes as he caught nine balls for 146 yards and a score. Unfortunately it was all against cellar dweller Oakland. Previous: 21

19) Texans - The upcoming squad couldn't stick with the bruising Steelers, but Matt Schaub (202 yards, TD) and Andre Johnson (1o receptions, 112 yards) still show that their is promise for the other Texas team this season. Previous: 16

20) Buccaneers - Jeff Garcia played well in the losing effort but he's heading to the injured list for at least one game.  It'll be up to journeyman Brian Griese as the Bucs welcome in the fresh Falcons on Sunday and try to avoid an 0-2 start. Previous: 13

21) Arizona - Kurt Warner minimized errors, Edgerrin James went over 100 yards for the 56th time in his career, and even Anquan Boldin made an appearance bringing in 8 receptions for 82 yards. Arizona could make moves in the NFC West if Seattle continues to struggle. Previous: 17

22) Seahawks - The Bills dominated the ball on defense and special teams and it seemed all Seattle could do was watch. At least that's what Nate Burelson will be doing the rest of the season, with the loss of Burleson the Seahawks have now lost their top three receivers and will turn to backup quarterback Seneca Wallace to make some catches.  Previous: 8

23) Redskins - Jim Zorn looked confused, Jason Campbell never got started (how could he, the 4th year quarterback threw seven times in the first half) and Washington got punched in the mouth against the defending Super Bowl champs 17-6. Previous: 14

24) Falcons - Matt Ryan threw a 62-yard touchdown pass on his first attempt of his career. Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood proved Atlanta has solid ground game. Don't put the slipper on Cinderella quite yet, the young dirty birds still have quite a way to fly. Previous: 31

25) Titans - Vince Young goes down for 2-4 weeks, but that might not be the worst thing for Tennessee. Young was only able to complete 12 passes for 110 yards in the 17-10 victory over Jacksonville. Previous: 24

26) Dolphins - Even though they fell short against the Jets, it's safe to say Miami looked light-years ahead of last years squad. Pennington looked comfortable, Ricky Williams was back to old form, who knows maybe Miami wins some games this year. Previous: 29

27) Bengals - Chad Ocho Cinco made headlines all offseason because of his disgust with Cinci's D -- well Chad, I hope you don't you think your one reception for 22 yards was anything phenomenal. When Carson Palmer throws for 94 total yards you're in for a long season. Previous: 22

28) Lions - Calvin Johnson forgot to send out invitations to his breakout party, and Jon Kitna lit up the scene with 262 yards passing. If Detroit wants to even consider contending this year someone on defense needs to show up. Previous: 28

29) 49ers - Alex Smith is out for the season with a shoulder injury. Who cares, he wasn't playing anyway. Things can only go up for San Francisco who almost squeaked out a victory over Arizona on Sunday. Previous: 32

30) Chiefs- We knew they were going to be bad this season, but at least they had a shot of taking down the Patriots when they took down Tom Brady. Right? Previous: 30

31) Raiders - The one shining spot for Oakland was JaMarcus Russell who threw for 180 yards and two scores. The one not so shiny spot, Oakland's herendous D which surrendered 396 yards. Previous: 27

32) Rams - Last and very least. St. Louis plain ole stunk on Sunday, giving up 363 yards of offense to Donovan McNabb alone. How bad were the Rams on Sunday? Their second leading rusher had -4 yards (NEGATIVE FOUR!) Previous: 18

Things to notice:

Biggest improvement - Bears from 26th to 11th
Biggest drop - Seattle from 8th to 22nd
Comfortable where they are - Chiefs and Lions stay at 30th and 28th respectively.

European Fashion

Thank you Josh Childress. Ever since you signed your unprecedented 3-year, $20 million contract with Euroleague club Olympiacos NBA fans worldwide have gone into panic.

Childress a four year NBA vet averaged 11.0 points, 1.8 assists, and a miniscule 0.5 steals per game as a member of the Atlanta Hakws. At best he was a solid bench player in the NBA, in Europe he is already being called an American "Superstar."

If Childress is being viewed as a superstar imagine what Kobe Bryant and LeBron James would be. Basketball gods? Immortal hoopsters? Whatever they'd be viewed as, one thing is for sure, they would be rolling in cash.

James and Bryant have both claimed they would definitely consider playing in Europe once they become free agents in 2010, and how could you blame them? They'd be nuts if they at least didn't look into playing for $50 million A YEAR! That's right, rumor has it that James and Bryant's opening negotiations would start in the 45-50 million dollar range.

Because European leagues do not have a salary cap they are free to toss around as much money as they would like to lure NBA stars.

It is a scary thought, losing the players who are currently donning the red, white, and blue in the Olympics to some team named the Olympiacos.

Who knows, maybe Bryant and James are just using this a negotiating platform for when they can receive new contracts in two seasons -- or maybe -- they are paving the way for the latest European fashion.

Only time will tell.

In other news former NBA forward Shawn Kemp reportedly signed a deal with the Italian team Premiata Montegranaro. The  six-time all-star hasn't played since the 02-03 season.

Kemp has tried to make several comebacks in both the NBA and Rome, but has not been able to stick with a team.

May-Treanor and Walsh: The best keep getting better

I have Olympic fever, caused by an overly compulsive need to watch every possible event in Beijing (including Equestrian) because I know in one week I am going to have to wait four more years for the 'Filet Mignon' of sporting events to be served again.

My brain is fried and is on the verge of exploding, due to an un-healthy intake of NBC's HD coverage. My temperature is reaching the boiling point, and the cure to solve this disease is simple: More.

I need more Dwayne Wade to Kobe Bryant, I need more Michael Phelps quest for eight, and a small sample of Track and Field would do me well. But what I need most of all is Women's Olympic Beach Volleyball.

Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh are outrageous.  They flow like a well-oiled machine, and attack like a starved Tiger being let out of a cage. Their level of intensity and skill is incomparable to other teams in the world.

If you take Michael Phelps out of the equation we might have the most dominant American Olympic athletes in these games. The Athens Gold medalists took one step closer to solidifying their dominance over the sport on Friday against the Belgiums

The duo defeated Belgium 24-22, and 21-10 on Friday. The Americans triumphed against five set points to rally and win the first match and cruised in the second in a 15 minute fashion.

Th victory gives May-Treanor and Walsh their 105th consecutive win. The #1 seeded combo are yet to lose a set in Beijing and will now move into the quarterfinals.

The two have been playing together since 2000, and the games in Beijing are their third.

In the 2000 Sydney games, May-Treanor strained her Abdominal muscle, and they finished a disappointing fifth.

After four years of mastering the international and domestic scene, the two won the Gold in Athens, and didn't lose a game in their seven matches in '04.

Although Walsh has had multiple shoulder surgeries the last few years -- including rotator cuff surgery in November-- the two seem to be cruising nicely on their way to repeating their 2004 performance. The two are yet to lose a game in Beijing, and their 24-22 victory of Belgium is the closest any opponent has gotten so far.

Speculation says these will the final Olympic games for the tandem, as both are rumored to be looking to spend more time with family after these games.

Take it from me -- a man who has logged nearly twenty-two hours of Olympic coverage to his TiVO -- you want watch the 'Golden Girls' dominate their sport like very few have while you still have the chance to.

Here is a slideshow of May-Treanor and Walsh through their first few games at the Olympics.
